Initially, I was excited about some dissertation topics I presented regarding mental health indicators. Still, I understand the challenge with subjects of the data would bring harm, but utilizing secondary data brings some advantages. It can provide significant data set samples when refined and continuously improved in its data collection method. One key factor is that all the upfront work has been validated and informed consent collected. If the Institutional Review Board waives the need for informed consent for a secondary research project, you have expedited your time to focus on the research. I understand that I can continue to use those topics for journal article submissions in that research area of interest. I am good with the path I am on in my dissertation topic and will be working with both my major professor and AGF on my topic in the upcoming weeks.
After much brainstorming and thinking through my research interests, I resurrected my passion for big data, artificial intelligence, and learning analytics. My new dissertation topic is "Educational Data Intelligence: Improving Teachers' Data Literacy and Pedagogical Practices." I know how big data, AI, and learning analytics can help teachers improve their teaching and student learning outcomes. The study is essential to empower educators to make intelligent choices that enhance student learning outcomes. Incorporating Artificial Intelligence, Learning Analytics, and Big Data into education holds tremendous potential as technology advances. It empowers educators to deliver personalized, flexible, and engaging learning experiences while providing essential insights that impact instructional approaches. Teachers must have a critical and complex understanding of data literacy and its implications. Teachers' professional development has traditionally been given a lower priority in the school year budget. However, it is imperative that as technology progresses, pedagogical approaches also evolve with our instructors, and it becomes a high priority.
I have collected about 38 research articles and about 5 for theory, and I am streamlining how I search for articles and what journals benefit the dissertation topic. I am working on using a reference manager that can help me organize my notes and show a relational connection to my topic and thoughts. I have spent the last two weeks deciding how to organize my dissertation roadmap and plan my work effort tasks in a project plan. The vision to completion needs to be tracked so I allow enough time to prepare the research effectively without much rework. For time management efficiency, I use a research mobile app to help me review articles and find journals during dead time in a doctor's office or at a hair appointment. It will also help me balance the dissertation's workload and reduce cognitive overload, anxiety, and stress.
