The emerging trend, learning analytics, is the measurement, collection, and analysis of data related to learning to inform, improve learning processes, and their outcomes (Siemens et al., 2011). According to Sampson (2018), there are three different types of learning analytics tools, descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive. For example, in the education area, the descriptive analytics provides insights and patterns within student data; whereas, predictive analytics foresee future trends in a student’s progress; and prescriptive analytics recommends further educational resources, tools or learning actions (Sampson, 2018).

Each learning analytic supports the student's engagement and collects students information while they are learning and obtaining through formative and summative assessments. Assessments depict what a student know or do not know. According to Sampson (2018), the most significant impact of learning analytics is helping improve the instructional design and materials, and give students a more personalized e-learning experience.
